Who are we?

Whiteman Park Achers, formerly the Sorrento Archery Club, is a small, friendly, and active club based in the Archery Park, located on Jules Steiner Memorial Drive within the Whiteman Park International Shooting Complex (see details below). Our club is affiliated with Archery WA, Archery Australia, and World Archery, and we

The club has membership options for juniors, adults, and families, and cater for archers of any skill level in the disciplines of Target, Field and Clout, using recurve, compound, and longbow. We offer beginner's courses for people aged 13 and above, which commence at 10:30am on Saturdays (by appointment only). This is followed by the regular member shoot from midday. Newcomers and those wishing to try their hand at archery are always welcome to contact us to arrange a session, just fill out the contct form or reach out to us by email or on Facebook/Messenger.

How to find us

Opening in 2002, the Whiteman Archery Park is located in the International Shooting Complex, within the serene Whiteman Park grounds. We can be found off Tokin Highway, nestled amongst the kangaroos & gumtrees!

The Archery Park is run by Archery WA and is home to a number of clubs, inclucing Whiteman Park Archers, and provides equipment, coaching, and a practice range suitable for family fun days, birthday parties, social groups, schools and corporate groups that want to have a go at archery. The Archery Park is open every Sunday and takes bookings for Come ‘N’ Try beginner courses between 9am – 4.30pm.

 

Whiteman Park itself is a 4,000-hectare (9,900-acre; 15 sq mi, 38.8 sq km) bushland area located 22 km (14 mi) north of Perth, Western Australia. The park is in the suburb of Whiteman, in the Swan Valley.

Whiteman Park is known for its biodiversity, including more than 450 endemic plants and more than 120 vertebrate animals, some of which are rare and endangered. More than 17% of Western Australian bird species occur in Whiteman Park, including migratory birds attracted to the habitat provided by Bennett Brook and associated wetlands, including Grogan's Swamp, a Conservation Category Wetland. It’s not uncommon to see mob of kangaroos and a Wedge-tailed Eagle around the archery park, so remember to bring a camera!

Governing bodies

World Archery is the International Governing Body of Archery Australia, and the international federation for the Olympic and Paralympic sport of archery. The organisation was founded in 1931 and is responsible for regulating and promoting archery around the world.

World Archery has five continental member associations and more than 160 national member associations that regulate, promote and develop the sport in their respective regions.

Archery Australia is a not-for-profit community and membership-based organisation recognised by government at all levels as the National controlling body for the sport of archery in Australia. It is recognised by World Archery as the national federation for archery in Australia.

Recognised Governing Body (RGB) groups manage the day-to-day affairs of the sport at a state level and are managed completely separately to Archery Australia with different constitutions and their own rules and regulations. RGBs conduct and recognise state and local tournaments and are responsible for activities and programs that grow and development archery in their region. Each RGB is a channel of communication for Archery Australia, with Clubs, and individuals. There are eight (8) RGBs – ArcheryNSW, ArcheryACT, Archery Victoria, Archery Tasmania, ARCHERY SA, ArcheryWA, North Queensland Archery Association and South Queensland Archery Association.

Archery Western Australia (AWA, or ArcheryWA) was formerly known as Archery Society of Western Australia and was founded in 1939 to be the peak governing body for the sport of Archery in Western Australia. Sponsors include the Government of Western Australia, and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. Membership of the Association is provided via affiliation through ArcheryWA clubs, and is open to all individuals.

All affiliated archers (aged 16 and above) gain voting rights in the affairs of the Association and access to the other benefits of being a member, including appropriate insurance and public liability coverage, the right to shoot in any state sanctioned event, State Championships, National Championships or other open international events sanctioned by the international body of World Archery.
