A small, friendly archery club

Whiteman Park Archers is an archery club located amongst the kangaroos & gumtrees in Perth’s Northern suburbs. We welcome archers of all skill levels, and offer practice sessions, beginner's courses for people aged 13 and above, and competitions to share the joy of archery.

Welcome to Whiteman Park Archers.

Our club is affiliated with Archery WA, Archery Australia, and World Archery, and we cater for archers of any skill level in the disciplines of Target, Field and Clout, using recurve, compound, and longbow. We meet every Saturday from midday to shoot and enjoy the friendly club atmosphere. We also offer beginner's courses for people aged 13 and above, which commence at 10:30am on Saturdays (by appointment only). Newcomers and those wishing to try their hand at archery are always welcome to contact us to arrange a session, just fill out the contact form or reach out to us by email or on Facebook/Messenger.

If you aren’t sure whether we’re the right club for you, that’s okay. By completing a beginner's archery course at any Archery WA club, or the Come 'n Try facility also located at Archery Park (Whiteman Park), you are able to join any Archery WA club in WA and start shooting!

The sport of archery was introduced to Australia in the 18th and 19th Centuries, and from records held at the Australian National Library, was practised at Sydney Cove in 1789, making archery the oldest organised sport practised in Australia.  We encourage everybody to try the sport, so why not browse our website, contact us, or pop down one Saturday afternoon to arrange take a look?

The Equipment

Archers come in all shapes, sizes, and ages, and so does the equipment we use. Our club caters for traditional archery, as well as modern recurve and compound archery (learn more about these below). If you’re just starting out and don’t have any equipment, that is fine, we offer a beginner’s course and will provide you with all of the equipment you need. After you complete the beginner’s course, you’ll still be able to borrow club equipment, or you can then take the opportunity to speak to our friendly club members about next steps to buy your own. Our club members shoot everything from affordable beginner equipment through to professional equipment, so regardless of your level, we can help you figure out what you need.

Recurve

Recurve archery is a discipline that features a modern evolution of a traditional bow design, where the limbs of the bow curve away from the archer when the bow is strung, giving the bow its name. Recurve archery is Olympic sport, offers a challenging and rewarding experience, and is a great way to learn technique.

Compound

Compound archery is a modern style of archery that uses bows with a system of pulleys and cables to allow for a reduction in the strength needed to hold the bow at full draw, enhancing precision for the archer, and making it both faster and more accurate than traditional bows.

Traditional

Traditional archery harks back to the roots of the sport, embodying the heritage and simplicity of using a single piece wooden bow. Requiring strength and finesse, offering a pure and disciplined form of archery, it's a timeless discipline that connects archers with the rich history and tradition of the bow and arrow.

The Disciplines

Archery is a sport with various disciplines, each with its unique challenges and settings. Whiteman Park Archers caters for Target, Field and Clout archery, offering distinct experience, from the equipment used to the scoring methods.

Target

Target archery involves shooting arrows at a fixed target, from a specific distance, on a flat and level field. This discipline focuses on precision and technique.

Field

Field archery, often compared to "archery golf," takes place on a course with varied terrain and distances, requiring adaptability and skill in changing environments.

Clout

Clout archery is a traditional form of archery that tests the accuracy of archers at longer distances, requiring familiarity with bow/sights and arcing shots.
